The Community Law Partnership (CLP) is an award winning, progressive firm of solicitors specialising in the law relating to Housing and Public Law. CLP incorporates the Travellers Advice Team (TAT) – a ground-breaking nationwide advice service for Gypsies and Travellers which runs a national Advice Line which is available on 0121 685 8677 between 9.00 am and 1.00 pm Monday to Friday.
The firm was formed in 1999, by the Founding Partners: Chris Johnson, Rosaleen Kilbane and Mike McIlvaney. We aim to provide quality legal services to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged sections of society who, without our assistance, would be denied access to the legal system and to their rights. We aim to give a personal, expert, efficient and friendly service to our clients.
In September 2015, Craig Keenan and Holly Sherratt joined the partnership, and in April 2018, Nashin Akbar, Samitra Balu and Laura Carter joined the partnership. In addition to the Partners, the firm employs solicitors and highly trained and experienced case-workers. It also takes great pride in its trainee development programme, whereby young graduate lawyers are given the training, guidance and hands-on opportunities to develop into experienced professionals. Friends, Families and Travellers (FFT) is a leading national Traveller led charity, active since 1994, that works on behalf of all Gypsies, Roma and Travellers regardless of ethnicity, culture or background. We aim to end racism and discrimination against Gypsies, Roma and Travellers, regardless of ethnicity, nationality, culture or background, whether settled or mobile, and to protect the right to pursue a nomadic way of life.
We investigate and expose unfair treatment, advocate for equal rights and empower individuals to challenge inequality.

We have a team of 26 staff, with a national casework team, Sussex support team, policy staff specialising in Accommodation, Education, Health and Hate & Discrimination and a Campaigns and Communications Team. Our advisors work closely with CLP staff and our organisations have a strong working partnership stretching over several decades. At least half of our Trustees, staff, interns and volunteers are Gypsy, Roma and Travellers.

Job Description
Advising, assisting and representing (under supervision) Gypsies, Travellers and Boat Dwellers with regard to accommodation and public law matters. Attending appropriate training courses. You will receive appropriate training and will be also, like all Partners and employees of the firm, asked to help out, as reasonable and appropriate, with the general running of the firm.
Hours: Full time Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.30 pm (1 hour lunch break 1.00 pm – 2.00 pm).
Holidays: 25 days per annum plus statutory holidays.

Professional Development
You will agree individual objectives and set priorities in accordance with those objectives. You will identify own training and professional development needs in consultation with your supervisor and source appropriate support. You will comply with professional regulation requirements. You will successfully complete the recognised professional post-graduate training in accordance with the requirement of the Law Society and you will complete the requirements of the Legal Education Foundation Justice First Fellowship.
