We are based in the Royal Courts of Justice and the Central London Family Court. We employ 6 solicitors and are supported by City Law Firms and Family Firms and practitioners who provide almost 300 pro bono solicitors who help deliver legal advice to over 7,000 Litigants in Person. We operate a Legal Aid contract in housing, have a debt and bankruptcy service and also deliver Citizens Advice Islington.

We are a partner within the Litigant in Person Support Strategy funded by the Ministry of Justice and deliver civil and family legal advice both face to face and remotely as well as lead on a number of collaborative models including pro bono rotas in the Queens Division and Court of Appeal.

Our family legal centre is a specialist service – delivering free legal advice and representation in family cases including divorce, children and finance.

The trainee will be based within our Family Legal Centre at the Central London Family Court, working alongside our solicitors, 40 pro bono solicitors and our support team. The trainee will conduct family legal advice and cases and will be involved in the collaborative Family Solutions – a range of emotional support, alternative dispute resolution and legal advice options available on the fourth floor of the Court.

Our family team have an innovative approach to divorce matters and support the delivery of remote legal advice across England and Wales via the divorce module of CourtNav. CourtNav is an interactive online tool developed by RCJ Advice partnership with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. The tool is designed to help people complete court forms which are created from the answers given to plan English questions which are checked by a solicitor before populating relevant court forms. Please see http://play.buto.tv/tMnyS for a short overview of CourtNav.

As well as legal advice our family service hosts mediation, pro bono rotas for public and private pro bono representation in partnership with the Bar Pro Bono Unit and solicitors and barristers. We also manage and deliver the first ever Child Contact Centre based within a court – Time Together
