We are a firm of campaigning lawyers deeply committed to social justice issues and representing client groups who are especially vulnerable. From the outset our firm has set out to be a legal aid firm representing marginalised individuals and groups We are dedicated and proactive in using the law to try and hold the state to account. This ethos is central to our work.

We have legal aid contracts for Public Law, Community Care and Actions against Public Bodies.

Key areas of practice

We have expertise in a number of areas, but are best known for our work in the following areas:

  1. Migrant rights, especially in relation to support given to destitute migrant children or adults with care needs; asylum support; student finance, NHS charging decisions and education provision.
  2. Claims against the police for the unlawful exercise of police powers, particularly miscarriage of justice, unlawful arrest and detention and the retention and sharing of personal data.
  3. Inquests including deaths in custody, police shooting, victims of domestic violence and deaths in mental health institutions or communities.
  4. Claims against public bodies for damages for breaches of human rights
  5. Discrimination – usually arising in the above contexts

We are recognized as one of the leading firm’s undertaking this work. Our Director was awarded the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year award in the Children’s Rights category in 2016. Both our Directors are recommended lawyers in Chambers and Partners and Legal 500, and the firm is ranked in the Public Law and Civil Liberties categories in the Legal 500.
