Host Organisation: North East Law Centre

Shareen Din

Shareen is a Trainee Solicitor at the North East Law Centre based in Newcastle. Her areas of law will include Family, Immigration & Asylum and Employment law.

Shareen grew up and studied in the North East, she completed her Legal Practice Course (LPC) at Northumbria University. Having completed her LPC in 2008, Shareen took a break from actively pursuing a Training Contract in order to focus on her family and her two young children.

She has worked both in private practice and not for profit organisations. Shareen has worked at a national law firm where she delivered Employment advice on behalf of Community Legal Advice. In 2014, she moved to the Health and Social Care Department where she assisted in several successful challenges for those clients who wrongfully paid Care Home Fees. She was required to draft and submit complex medico-legal arguments required for clients to secure the thousands of pounds of NHS Continuing Healthcare funding.

Her passion for ‘every day’ law and assisting those that are vulnerable became evident quite early on in her career. Her overall aim is to provide a caring and dedicated service to those who are facing difficult situations and have no recourse to seeking justice.

Project – Offering Legal Services to the BAME Community in an accessible manner

This project will focus on providing legal advice and assistance to vulnerable women from the BAME Community. The aim is to tackle the issue of not being able to access legal advice, isolation and impact on health due to being too afraid to seek advice or due to barriers of race, language and gender. Shareen intends to address this problem by offering a drop-in clinic in an environment which is safe and easy to access such as GP Surgeries and baby and toddler groups.
